Wassup guys I'm back once..AGAIN! with some new information that can benefit YOU!
As the weather transitions to BRICK COLD- we have to change up our hair regimen so it can match the environment you and your hair are going to be in.
Either your hair was thriving during the summer or it was a frizzing mess! Winter and Fall has another thing coming.
The whole reason in changing your hair's routine is to protect to from the windy, and cold weather approaching rather FAST. Having the wind play around with your maine, causes it to dry out since the cold climate has taken the moisture in your hair AWAY.
Ya'll know everytime I talk about hair care I HAVE to add if you know your hair porosity. I can not stress this enough, once you know your hair porosity you're halfway there into caring for your hair properly!
Let's start with the basis of cold weather hair care then on to particular steps.
Well of course when talking about protecting your hair- protective styles are always brought up.
YES!
Protective styles are a MUST! How else is the cold air going to be blocked in real life?
I think everyone know that keeping our hair moisturized than ever is require in colder seasons but some need reminding so here LOL
Another thing I'm pretty sure is known BUT also needed to be said multiple times is DEEP CONDITIONING!
That and a hair mask (little secret..it's literally the same thing, just another marketing scheme *shrugs*) can be the boost you need if you've been lacking on the hair care for the last two weeks and it be like that..
Pre-poo.
Pre-poo is basically a prep before shampooing. You can do this with a regular conditioner, butters, oils- even a deep conditioner too!
The purpose of pre-pooing is to add a protective barrier on your hair strands so as you shampoo, your hair will still feel moisturized after. Your hair ever felt dry but really clean after shampooing?! Yeah, they tend to strip your hair of its natural oils to cleanse your scalp.
Pre-pooing can be also give you an opportunity to detangle your hair so your wash day routine can be a smooth transition.
A good pre-poo I recommend is using aloe vera gel from the plant. It adds great slip to detangle, a good moisturizing agent, curl definer and create softness. Can't beat that.
Pre-poos are to be remained in for 30 minutes or for an extra boost, overnight. Then washed out right before you shampoo.
This method is neutral for any porosity.
Hot oil treatment is a great method to add to your regime for my peeps with high porosity as you may know our hair cuticles are out unlike people with low porosity who cuticles are flat shut. HP needs the cuticles to lay flat so the moisture can be sealed in.
One thing to steer away from but not for too long are emollients. Emollients are elements that attract moisture from the air to your hair. Some are:
- raw coconut oil
- honey
- castor oil
and etc. they will tend to solidify in cold climates causing a film barrier (which may be good if you're going for a certain look that needs holding strength, but if not then..you know)
Any heat styling is prohibited but not for too long. Blow drying can be used as a form of stretching your hair for length; some do not know there are other ways to naturally stretch your hair!
And that my fams will be discussed in my next blog post! until then stay posted for our next restock and NEW product that'll help your time of need. Stay hydrated folks! 😎
