Do You Need a Trim?

Hey guys, Lifestyle Princess is back with some more guidance for your natural hair journey! On today's blog, we're talking about the forbidden fruit for natural haired newbies--- TRIMMING. DEM. ENDS. I know we all want to keep our long length we salvaged but them frizzy, uneven ends got other plans...

You've seen the title already so let's just begin! Do YOU need a trim?

Now the key sign of knowing you need a trim is the difference in volume when it comes to your hair. Are your ends quite thinner than the rest? Your hair is more hard to detangled? Or are your ends see through?! If you answered 'yes' to any those, well-- love...love your ends by trimming dead weight.

Cutting off ALL of them off seems out of the picture since you're reading this blog BUT if you don't mind cutting them off then miss gworl SINP!

I'm not telling you to cut your ends just because so here's what happens when you keep ends that are dead weight:

  • split ends keep splitting

-the more time you hold on, the more it continues to split; to the point of the entire hair strand itself to being shed

  • dead ends are dead so they just break off; which will create excessive break

-your hair will be prone to breaking off if you don't give any effort to nourish it

  • you won't see any growth changes due to your ends breaking

-your roots will continue to grow BUT you will see little to no length change sine they're breaking from the end

Single strand knots may begin to happen; the hair strands tie itself causing tangles which increases breakage and harder to detangle

If you start to see more dead hair when you take out your sew-ins, wigs, braids etc? I think it's time for a trim!

Naturalists have said it's recommended to trim your hair while wet because of its ability to stretch, seeing its true length-- some say no because of wet hair being so fragile which leads to more breakage

Some naturalists say yes to trimming while dry (i.e. blowout) because you have more visibility to assure a clean cut.

again.. I DON'T KNOW WHY---- but I prefer to do it wet/damp by trimming while my hair is in twists or braids. It's quite easy to spot curls that just ain't it. Most of my trimming are in fact dry too (dry I mean my hair stretched out but naturally without any heat like a blowout) but again they're in braids or twists in the process.

You can try BOTH methods and see what works for you and your natural hair! If "my hair stretched out but naturally" caught your attention then leave a like ;) and stay tuned for my next post for different ways to stretch your hair without heat!

Until next time my naturals! P E A C E, aah
