In today's blog, we're going to discuss this water-- hair strand- bowl ish that we've all heard or seen of.
Basically it testes your hair's porosity:
your hair's ability to absorb and retain moisture
There's three stages of hair porosity:
Normal
High
Low
and I'm here to explain all three!
Low
Hair does NOT have the ability to obtain, hair strands are tightly sealed.
May feel dry at times, but once moisture is received; it stays.
High
Hair DOES obtain moisture but too much moisture due to its hair cuticles being flared out, open with gaps in strands.
The faster it can absorb, the quicker you can lose it.
Normal
Hair takes in the right amount of moisture and it stays! Little to no maintenance.
Now the tea on the water test is that you take a single strand and drop it in a CLEAR bowl or cup of water. If it FLOATS on top of the water, you have low. If it SINKS to the bottom, you have high. If it slowly drifts down but stays in the MIDDLE-- well you have normal hair porosity.
There are rumors saying the water test is actually an inaccurate way to figure what porosity you have-- I DONT KNOW HOW the community came to that conclusion but it seems real accurate to me.
But in all honesty, the true way (word on the fro block) to find out your porosity is....
.
Being aware when it comes to your hair, observe your hair and its reaction to products.
Do water beads sit on top of your hair like low porosity? Does your hair soak up products but the moisture just isn't there anymore like high porosity? Or do your hair just hair so good ;like normal? Use this information to find out!
